About Farquhar Forge

Hello, I am Jonathan Farquhar, also known under my trading name as Lord Farquhar. I have been blacksmithing commercialy since 2004. I have sold knives and blades all over the world, from Australia to Romania. I first became fascinated with making tools and things from metal and wood since I was a small boy. I remember getting a long section of wrought iron from a waste tip and using a bench grinder and a disk cutter and I made a large rough knife and an axe. My interest was re-kindled from watching many old Japanese films and I loved the way that Japanese culture revered their artisans and how they would make simple tools with such dedication and make them so beautifully. I am a great fan of neo-tribal and archaic finishes alongside natural materials. I like handmade tools and knifes to look handmade, I like to be able to see how it was made much like how you can see how a painter has composed a painting by looking at the brush strokes upon the canvas. If I wanted a handmade item to look like it was pressed and milled by a machine, then I would just buy a factory made one

Recent works/commissions

A relative large part of the objects that I make are on a commission basis. Often somebody has an idea for an item and will ask for a quote or they have seen something I have made in the past and want one of themselves. If you have a look in the gallery and recent works pages you may find something you are interested in, just drop me an email with your requirements and I will be able to quote you a cost and a time estimation.

I have lots of options available when it comes to the materials you want your items made from. Knives and knife blades can be made from a range of carbon steels including tools steels, spring steel as well different Damascus steel. Jewellery I tend to make from silver but often get asked to make pendants from Copper, steel, silver and bronze. Additionally I can make jewellery from Mokume Gane.
